POLLA

The gateway town of the Vallo di Diano

Coming from North, Polla is the first town welcoming you to the Vallo di Diano territory, Southern Campania. It is located not far from the famous Pertosa-Auletta Caves, which natural beauty attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Over time, the town has developed on both banks of the Tanagro river, crossing the entire valley, thus also called Valley of Tanagro river, alternating with the known name of Valley of Diano.

The east bank of the river is known for being the first Roman settlement of this town where remains are preserved and still visible, while on the west, the medieval village is perched on the hills slopes. Like the other villages of the region, Polla offers several churches, convents and noble palaces. You can also visit the Museum dedicated to the 19th – 20th century traditional cloth worn by the Pollese women known as Museo delle antiche vestiture. The Franciscan Convento di Sant’ Antonio is worth a stop. Here lives a small circle of Franciscans, where a loving and hardworking bond between the friars and the Pollese community is encountered. The convent represents a splendid example of local baroque, especially the church, the refectory and the cloister.

It would be a fascinating day to spend among naturalistic, artistic and cultural itineraries.
